The Best Time to Paint Your House Exterior in Phoenix
May 19, 2026 · 5 min read
In Phoenix, when you paint your exterior matters almost as much as what product you use. Paint needs to go on within a certain temperature range and cure before it gets too hot, and our summers push well past that. Here is how we think about timing.
Aim for the cooler months
The sweet spot for exterior painting in the Valley is roughly October through April. Surface temperatures stay in range, humidity is low, and the coating has time to cure properly. That is when most exterior repaints get scheduled, so it is also the busiest season.
Summer is possible, with a plan
We can paint in summer, but it takes planning. The trick is chasing the shade around the house and avoiding any wall that is in direct, baking sun. A surface can be 40 degrees hotter than the air, and applying paint to a too-hot wall causes it to dry before it can bond, which leads to early failure.
Watch the monsoon
Late summer monsoon storms bring sudden rain and dust. Fresh exterior paint needs dry time, so we keep an eye on the forecast and plan around storm days rather than risk a coat getting hit before it sets.
The bottom line
If you have flexibility, schedule exterior work for fall through spring. If summer is your only window, it can still be done right by working with the heat instead of against it. Either way, we will give you an honest recommendation when we come out for your free estimate.
